PostDoc Researcher: Data Platforms and Business Models

The PostDoc researcher will conduct research on designing digital platforms for sharing non-personal data through data marketplaces. Specific focus points are business models, architectures and/or governance models for data platforms. Methods will include (action) design research, survey research and case studies.

The PostDoc will work in two interlinked EU-projects.The first aims to launch a pan-European data marketplace platform (www.trusts-data.eu). The second designs enabling technologies for privacy-preserving data platforms (www.safe-deed.eu). Through the projects, there are opportunities to collaborate with several academic partners as well as over 15 businesses.

During the PostDoc, the applicant will conduct research and prepare scientific articles presenting the research. Specific tasks will be defined in further discussions. Depending on preferences, the PostDoc can take a role in leading tasks and/or engaging stakeholders for reach-out. There is also the opportunity to gain experience in supervising PhD students in both projects as well as to engage in teaching.

The applicant will be mentored by Dr Mark de Reuver (Associate Professor, leads the digital platforms research theme) and Dr Anneke Zuiderwijk (Assistant Professor, leads the open data research theme). The PostDoc will be part of a young and vibrant research community.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research project, the applicant will have a relative large degree of freedom concerning the specific research path.


You will be offered full time employment (38 hours per week, 1 FTE) for the duration of 2 years. Starting date is negotiable, but preferably before 1 September 2020.

The applicant should have a PhD in information sciences, information systems, computer science, (digital) business or related fields. We seek candidates with a personal drive to improve and acquire new knowledge. Furthermore, applicants should demonstrate a solid background in articulating themselves in English.
