OFFER DESCRIPTION

Since Android 7 released in 2016, access to raw GNSS measurements is available, allowing the development of advanced GNSS positioning algorithms on smartphones. This makes it possible to develop geolocation applications while controlling each step of the position computation. In addition, in 2018 the first dual-frequency GNSS smartphone (E1/L1+E5/L5) equipped with the BCM47755 chip was released. In order to respond to the latest achievements in the field of GNSS positioning on smartphones, the GEOLOC laboratory of the Nantes campus of the University Gustave Eiffel has developed a multi-constellation and multi-frequency precise positioning application under Android 9, called GeolocPVT. The development of this application is part of the GNSS Raw Measurements Task Force of the GSA. This open source application is currently able to calculate a position from GPS, Galileo and BeiDou constellations, and to use the two frequencies received by the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone.

The Android developer in precise GNSS positioning will be in charge of the future development of the GeolocPVT application. For example, he/she will be able to integrate the GLONASS constellation to the position computation and implement an algorithm using the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technique. The positioning computation solution will have to be tested and qualified. He/she will have to ensure the quality of the code by testing it, fixing bugs and validating each step of development. The main objective is to produce a functional application in order to deploy it on the Google Play Store. Thus, he/she will have to produce a robust code with an intuitive and modern interface. He/she will also ensure the valorization of the ccompleted work by participating in the annual workshop of the GSA GNSS Raw Measurements Task Force and writing scientific papers. He/she will work in close collaboration with the GEOLOC laboratory team.

The main activities:

- Continue the development of the GeolocPVT application (Android - Java):

• Add new features

• Test and qualify the implemented positioning algorithms

• Complete the technical and user documentation

• Debug, validate the application to make it robust

• Improve the interface (GUI) to make it intuitive and modern

• Deploy the application on the Google Play Store

- Valorize the work by writing scientific articles and participating in the annual GSA workshop

- Carry out scientific monitoring of the relevant fields
