Post: Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher - ARISE Project - Research & Innovation (Fixed-Term Specified Purpose Wholetime for up to 5 years with initial funding for 2 years) (Reference: 179/2025)
Location: The post will be based at one of the TU Dublin Campuses i.e. Aungier Street, Bolton Street, Grangegorman, Blanchardstown or Tallaght. Regular attendance at other sites will be required.
Hours of Work: A 37 hour working week is in operation.
Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate scale depending on experience and qualifications, point (01) of the
- Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale i.e. €48,412 gross per annum
Or
- Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale i.e. €53,770 gross per annum.
Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Incremental credit may apply in line with University policy.
Closing Date: Tuesday 29th July 2025 at 5.00 p.m. (Irish time). Late applications will not be accepted.
It is anticipated that interviews for this post will take place in week beginning 26th August 2025. The interview assessment will be 40 minutes in length and will include a presentation of 10 minutes duration. The topic of this presentation will be as follows:
“Creating and growing a sustainable research relationship with the medical device industry”

Knowledge
- Must possess a relevant doctoral degree in Materials Science/Engineering (or Chemistry/Physics/Engineering with a materials component) from an approved degree awarding institution or equivalent (Essential).
Experience
- Experience of a wide range of material characterisation techniques (such as biocompatibility and/or microscopy and/or spectroscopy and/or electrochemistry and/or XRD and/or surface analysis) (Essential).
- Experience of medical devices and industrial manufacturing techniques (Essential).
- Experience of materials and (bio)coatings (Desirable).
- Experience of biological assessment of materials (stability/toxicology) (Desirable).
Essential Criteria for a Senior Post-doctoral Researcher Role
- Experience of working with and reporting to clients (industrial partners/state agencies) (Essential).
- Successfully completed at least one Post-doctoral Fellowship or equivalent in the public or private Sector. (Essential).

Further information for Post-doctoral Researcher
In the case of a 1st Post-doctoral Fellowship where the applicant may not have graduated yet, the successful applicant must, at the time of appointment, provide a letter from the appropriate graduate studies office confirming that the student has completed the programme including all the examination requirements and is just awaiting the formal graduation ceremony and the likely date on which that will take place.
