OFFER DESCRIPTION
You will be part of the team responsible for the data processing software and computing infrastructure of the CMS experiment. In particular, you will belong to the experts that monitor the health of the distributed computing infrastructure and central services of CMS.

- You will operate, maintain, and enhance the testing infrastructure that assesses the readiness of computing sites in a quantitative way. Communication via ticketing systems and email is of high importance as CMS sites are in various time zones.
- You will provide coverage during the European time zone and work with admins from the data centers around the world to help optimize resource usage, and debug site issues.
- You will be trained in all aspects of the distributed computing infrastructure of CMS and the technical details of Grid computing.
- You will operate time critical tasks and services and take over mission critical monitoring responsibilities. The monitoring infrastructure provided by CERN is based on HDFS, ElasticSearch, InfluxDB, Kibana, and Grafana. CMS is in the process of migrating all monitoring to this ecosystem.
- You will migrate legacy visualization of service and site readiness to the new setup and enhance them in the process.
Qualifications
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
- You have a Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Development or related fields;
- You have no more than 4 years' experience after completing your highest diploma.
Essential skills and experience:
- Experience in Linux service management and administration;
- Proficiency in Python and shell scripting;
- Knowledge of Grafana;
- Team spirit.
Desired technical skills:
- Experience in common web technologies like HTML, CGI, and JavaScript;
- Experience in managing ticketing systems and computing service support;
- Experience in batch systems and high throughput computing on Grid/Cloud;
- Proficiency in software development and code design.
Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

In return, CERN will provide you with:
- An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
- A stipend ranging from 5,281 to 6,558 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
- Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
- 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
